Retrieving thoughts on Chesapeake

We know the critics believe Chesapeake is barking up the right tree, since the show is lapping up great reviews. But we'd like to know what you think about the play as well, so please take a moment to retrieve a few ideas and type them up as Lucky did.

I am not one to throw compliments around, but I honestly believe that Greg Anderson should be nominated for a Jeff Award. He stepped up to a very difficult part and gave an exceptional performance. He's a star! And Shawn deserves a few accolades also!
This is a wonderfully enjoyable play.

This was a great performance! I've been telling everyone I know about it. Congratulations to the group and starring actor for putting it on. See you next year!

I loved this show. Full disclosure, I AM a proud Board member of Remy Bumppo, but i still can be objective! Greg Anderson's performance was a tour de force of acting! And I found the story funny, thought provoking, outrageous, maddening and in several cases, quite heartwarming. Did I mention FUNNY???? I loved this show and hope everyone comes to see it!

I am in total awe of Mr. Greg Matthew Anderson! He did an outstanding job! I may be prejudiced as he is my son-in-law but he was truly amazing! Very enjoyable show for anyone!

This was one of the best shows I've seen ... incredible ... I laughed, I cried, I was spellbound ... the production deserves Jeff awards for acting and directing.

I cannot put into words how extraordinary the performance was. Mr. Anderson's acting was heartfelt and real. The memory of the experience will stay with me for a very long time. Fantastic, terrific, and touching--I am very, very glad I saw this play.

What a great production of a superb script! Agree with Nancy that Greg's performance is a tour de force. One of the best plays (our of ~ 20) we've seen this season.

Definitely a good boy. Deserves a special treat and a nice long walk off his leash.

The show is delightfully funny and quite touching at the same time.
Seeing it and listening to the tremendous audience response was a joy.

Greg Anderson gave a wonderful performance, and the play was playful and inventive despite its didactic aspect. We thoroughly enjoyed it.

Yes Lee Blessing, Greg Anderson and Holly Hughes in one afternoon--glorious. We are still savoring the performance by reading the play, promptly ordered sat. evening. Also the videos, posters and other materials in the lobby are very much appreciated. Thank you for a perfect afternoon and a boat ride with our dog. Sheila

Sadly, I didn't like it, and left at intermission. Having done a little acting myself, I know how hard an extended monologue can be. No scene partner with whom to have a relationship, no evocation of emotion. I can't imagine the challenge involved and would never attempt it, but too often in my opinion he represented feelings rather than presenting them.

We left at intermission. Chesapeake was not something we wanted to give more time to. Greg's acting was not the problem, it was the play. We are hoping that your choice of plays next year will be a return to the Remy Bumppo we loved. We come with another couple and they refuse to renew. We have walked out of two of the three shows from the 2011-12 season. Pat Grady

Great fun. A friend and I attend many shows together, and he always "rests his eyes" during part of the performance, no matter what the venue--Lyric Opera, Chicago Symphony, Court Theatre, Chicago Shakes to name a few. For the first time ever, he did not miss a beat. Congratulations. That's a five star review.

Our group of 4 was totally enchanted. First off, how has this play remained so little known? It is not only hilarious, but also quite to the point. Tendentious, yes, but handled with great skill and wit. As for Mr. Anderson, he couldn't have been any better. If he doesn't win the Jeff for solo performance, there'll be something amiss. Congratulations to all!

What an accomplishment this is...I have a feeling that this is going to be a defining moment in Greg's career...everyone has now seen his many dimensions and his versatility as an actor. Jeff Award for this guy please!!! Impressive. Impressive. Impressive.

Very impressive! So many dimensions that Greg showed...Jeff Award for this guy please!

To the woman who left at intermission--you missed out. The 2nd act was superb.

I hope that everyone got more than laughs out of this show. Yes, it's meant to be funny but we're also supposed to get the idea that continuing funding for "the arts" is very important. And that keeping the NEA is important. And that giving grants to artists who might do "art" that we don't individually approve of is important.

Loved every minute of this terrific production. I have been busy recommending it as one of this year's events not to be missed.

We have been disappointed this year with the efforts of some of the theaters we support. Not Remy Bumppo. This shows that new material can be creatively and intriguingly presented. The play is a fantasy that is both touching and funny. Special congratulations to Mr. Anderson for his great performance.

This is an utterly incredible show. It is exactly what we have come to expect from a Remy Bumppo, production--thoughtful, intelligent dialog and superlative acting. In this case, superlative isn't really adequate to describe Greg Anderson's performance. It's one of those performances that you measure all other "one man shows" against. I'm sorry this isn't running for another month--I'd have had an opportunity to see Chesapeake for a THIRD time.

Amazing performance and not something you can tell someone about other than to say over and over 'you have to see it'. Best of luck to RB for the new season, the plays look fabulous.

Great was absolutely great! I don't know how he switched between all the characters so flawlessly.
We enjoyed the show and went twice.
